Locked In

Butterflies fluttered
Eyes like dragon flies
Hounded her
Invisible Bees Buzzed
Heart Rate Pumped

No I can’t do this
No I can’t
She kept chanting
She turned
Turned and fled

Running back inside
She closed the doors
Kept closing them
Till she reached
The innermost chamber

Locking the doors
She slumped
Double checking them
She breathed in at last

Days turned to dusks
She didn’t know
Days turned to months
She didn’t know

All she knew
She couldn’t breathe
She couldn’t see
She couldn’t feel

But she was safe
Safe from pain
Safe from back-stabbing
Safe from hurtful words
Safe from laughter
